Clippers Double-Team Hunger
The Los Angeles Clippers Foundation is scoring major points with The Salvation Army as one of the organization's biggest supporters this year. Throughout the 2009-10 basketball season, the L.A. Clippers Foundation is sponsoring ongoing food donations through its Points for Pounds challenge.
Twenty-five pounds of food will be donated for every “3 pointer” made by a Clipper during the entire season, meaning that every clutch basket by Barron Davis, Blake Griffin, or any other Clipper will add food to the shelves at the more than 30 Salvation Army food pantries in Southern California.
The Clippers’ commitment to The Salvation Army doesn’t stop there. Its Feed the Community Program, in partnership with Feed the Children, will provide food relief to benefit hundreds of families at The Salvation Army’s Siemon Family Youth and Community Center in the Fall.
The Clippers Foundation is also challenging other corporations to participate in a Jeans Day to Battle Hunger, whereby organizations can select a date between now and March 12, 2010 to host an employee Jeans Day to benefit The Salvation Army.
Road Trip Raffle is another opportunity for non-profits, youth groups and youth sports clubs to raise funds not only for their own organizations, but also to help out The Salvation Army. Participating groups can register for raffle books containing 10 raffle tickets per book. Each ticket will be sold for $20 with 50 percent of the proceeds donated back to the registered organizations. Additionally, five pounds of food will be donated to The Salvation Army for each ticket sold.
To find out how your group or organization can team up with the Clippers as they combine competition and fun to meet the needs of the community, contact the Clippers Community Relations Department at (310) 862-6030.
